Why view performing arts?

Why do we need stories at all? With all the excitement available in contemporary life, why do people watch plays, films, and television shows that create an imaginary world? Isn't the real world stimulating enough, without imagining other ones?

  1. We need stories because they are interesting and they help us learn about others and can also help us in life. I believe people watch plays, films, and television simply for entertainment. The world is stimulating enough but sometimes it's entertaining to watch others go through similar life circumstances in the imaginary world.

  2. I believe we need stories for several reasons. We can use stories to teach values and life lessons to those who have not yet experienced the wonders of life. We can use stories, plays, films to escape the monotony of our daily routines. It is also an inexpensive way to experience "adventures" that are realistically unattainable to some. And most importantly to me...they are a way of broadening your views of different cultures and of opening your mind to endless possibilities.

  3. With the downturn in the economy, the impending devastation in the gulf with the oil spill, our men still fighting overseas, and the problems with the health care system, we need escapism. We need to sit down, relax, and get away from the reality of life. Our emotions get released in different ways depending on the type of stories and images we see.

  4. The imagination is the mind’s way of captivating extraordinary situation that may or may not be reality. Life is full of challenges whether mild or severe.
The real world is a character builder which will alter your emotions & feelings. Going into the imaginary arena will help relieve you of such high stress levels and gives you a relaxing mode that is needed to continue living in this challenging world.
Therefore, we do need plays, films, and television shows simply to give us the entertainment we need to balance our human mind. So Remember, you can take a trip to Paris, not having a dime in your pocket, in the comfort of your home, with the power of the imagination and an open mind.

  5. Stories are an important part of life. There are many lessons to be learned in one's lifetime and stories can sometimes be the pathway to helping instill values or morals in a person without sounding "too preachy." Although television has been linked to violence, television hasn't always been "bad." Reminiscing back to when I was a child, Saturday mornings were my favorite. Sitting in front of the tv watching cartoons and waiting for commercial breaks to watch School House Rock. School House Rock taught us the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States, about the importance of daily hygiene, English grammar, etc.

Plays are enjoyable to watch because for the most part, they emulate life occurrences and can provide solutions perhaps not thought of.

  6. We live for stories—whether they’re movies or TV shows or plays or poems or even newspaper pieces. We want stories told to us over and over again. Why else would we want to watch movies multiple times, or insist on seeing ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ every year? They comfort us, they arouse us, they excite us and educate us, and when they touch our hearts we embrace them and keep them with us.
Stories are our prayers, so write and edit and tell them with due reverence, even when the stories themselves are irreverent. Stories are parables. Write and edit and tell yours with meaning so each tale stands in for a larger message, each moment is a lesson, each story a guidepost on our collective journey.

  7. I feel that these plays, films, and television shows imitate different scenario that people are going through and don’t know what to do or how to feel. It gives them that sense of mind that they are not along, and things can get better. Yes the world is stimulating enough but sometimes individual peoples’ lives aren’t very stimulating. Occasionally these plays, films, and television shows would make them laugh as well as help them in similar situations they might be in or around.

  8. We need stories because of the entertainment it provides. Stories provide an imaginative and sometimes realistic information based on reality life issues. People watch shows, and movies for entertainment and also because it is a way for families and friends to become closer. The real world is stimulating for entertainment, but the choices that is offered in Plays, films, and televisions allow people to learn about the world and explore adventures the world provide.

  10. I think we use stories to see the other side of life, sometimes we cannot live the adventuress life we want, so we read or see plays about it. I think people enjoy getting lost in life of others. I can understand why I myself love getting lost in a movie, I feel like im part of it.

  11. The important of stories, film amd television is to provide entertainment that we cannot get form the real life .I think sometime we need to escape the reality of the life that we live .The stimiulation that the real world give us is not enough so we have to find it some place else and the stories ,film and telvision give most of what we need.

  12. Yes, there is a lot going on in the world today. Some of it good, and some, not so good. I believe that we can use stories, films, plays and television to escape, imagine, dream, travel to far off lands, and even learn.
    Every life is a story.

  13. We need plays, film, television, and movies. There is enough drama in the world, but personally I appreciate the ability to escape from the worlds harsh realities. As children we used our imaginations to create worlds and situations that we had never known. As we grew up, we lost touch with that innocence and creativity. Performing Arts allows us to use our imaginations again to explore worlds past, present, and future.

  14. Because, every now and then we need a break from actual people standing before us and we tend to deeply enjoy watching "tv or movie people"act out something we would like to watch no matter whatever or whenever we are in the mood too, without technically having to deal with these individuals face to face.
